Hollett Baby Seeks to Raise Awareness of Unsafe Practice in Restaurants

Hollett Baby wants parents to know that inverting highchairs in restaurants to hold infant carriers is unsafe. The travel version of the Dual-Mate™ is now being marketed to restaurants.

The Hollett Travel Dual-Mate™ highchair is the only portable highchair that holds a toddler and easily converts into an infant carrier stand.

The highchair becomes top-heavy once it is inverted, making it an unwieldy location for a baby,” said Stephen Hollett, CEO of Hollett, Inc.

Inverting restaurant highchairs to hold a baby carrier is a dangerous practice that some restaurants still offer to parents. Hollett Baby has a better way.

The mission of Hollett, Inc. has always been to provide safe seating options for babies in infant carriers and toddlers. Some restaurants are aware that the common practice of inverting highchairs to hold baby carriers is unsafe, and goes against the intended use of the highchair. Unfortunately, many restaurants still offer this option to their patrons with babies in carriers, and parents are unaware that this is dangerous.

“A quick search on the Internet will highlight what some parents have already found out the hard way,” said Lisa Hollett, President of Hollett, Inc. “Accounts of people bumping into the inverted highchair and sending the infant in their carrier flying are easy to find. What was supposed to be a nice family meal turned into a trip to the emergency room all because there weren’t safe accommodations for their baby.”

The highchairs were never designed to be inverted, and warning labels on these units specifically address this issue. “The highchair becomes top-heavy once it is inverted, making it an unwieldy location for a baby,” said Stephen Hollett, CEO of Hollett, Inc. “This is the very scenario that prompted my invention of this product. It has always been my sincere mission to offer safe seating options for infants and toddlers so that a nice meal in a restaurant is just that, not a ticket to the emergency room.”

Hollett, Inc. has several product offerings for restaurants, and now plans to market the Dual-Mate™ Travel Highchair (which holds an infant carrier and converts to a highchair, then folds like a camping chair) to restaurants as an option for those establishments that need a safe option to hold infant carriers. “While dining out recently, we noticed an infant carrier with a baby inside being perched between two dining chairs,” said Stephen Hollett. “When we asked the wait staff about this, we were told they previously used a sling-type unit, but discontinued use of this product because it was flimsy.” The Dual-Mate™ is constructed of commercial grade materials to withstand continued use, and it also brings the baby carrier to table height so the baby is within sight at all times. The sling type unit place the child at a much lower level, and the child is neither in view nor a part of the dining experience. “This is the perfect option for a restaurant that may not be ready to purchase a new line of highchairs, but they need an infant carrier stand,” said Hollett. “We are excited to be able to offer this to restaurants, knowing that it could prevent possible injuries to young children.”
