EarnYourBadge.com, a service developed by an active police chief has seen tremendous growth and demand for additional services said its creator, Russell Ehlers, or, Chief Russ as he’s referred to by clients. “When Earn Your Badge, now commonly called EYB by Members, was in its development stages, I had no idea the demand would be so great” the chief said. In an interview at his EYB office, Chief Ehlers said he and two others discussed his desire to bring to life, a video based training service on the Internet less than two years ago. It took nearly one full year to develop the written content of Earn Your Badge and the written content into its now, very popular video format.

“The amount of work that goes into the maintenance and continued improvement of Earn Your Badge is worth the late nights” Ehlers said. “I expected clients to do very well when they used the material I made available, but even I was surprised at the number of testimonials that continue to come in every week. I’m truly so proud of these fine men and women that are doing what it takes to get hired.” Ehlers said the majority of clients come from the US and Canada, but indicated police candidates taking advantage of EYB come from a number of other countries as well including Mexico, Australia, several countries in Europe and even the Philippines.

“Since this time last year our client base has grown by more than 100% with additional services being added very recently.” Clients or “Members” as they are called after they join EYB, can now upgrade the services they enjoy with EYB to include a recently added service called Pass Your Entrance Exam, or, PYEE. Ehlers said the service is geared to help good men and women get a leg up on their competition. “The search for a career in law enforcement has always been a competitive environment” he said, “and that’s even more the case now, than ever before.” When asked if he felt the video based training gave law enforcement candidates or applicants an unfair advantage, he had this to say. “It’s gives them a huge advantage over their competition but unfair, indeed not. If one candidate applies to become a police officer or deputy sheriff and has an Associate’s degree while another has a Bachelor’s degree, does the applicant with a Bachelor’s have an unfair advantage? The clear answer is, they have a huge advantage, but it’s not unfair, it simply means one applicant has more education than the other.” Ehlers went on to say that preparation for navigating the law enforcement hiring process is the key to success. He also indicated that while many applicants feel they will land a job based on their resume and education alone, according to Ehlers, “When the dust settles, it all boils down to passing the written test, the oral board, the background and the polygraph and what a person looks like on paper has nothing to do with passing those hurdles. Many applicants go through the motions hoping they’ll do well” he said, “but if they prepare ahead of time they not only do much better than the competition, they go into the process with greater confidence, and trained confidence builds success.”

The EarnYourBadge.com Member’s Room is host to, among other components, video training sections called Pass Your Oral Board (PYOB) and Pass Your Entrance Exam (PYEE) and Pass Your Background Investigation (PYBI). When a law enforcement applicant or candidate purchases their membership to EarnYourBadge they have the option of the oral board or the entrance exam service. The new Member receives a unique username and password, allowing unrestricted and non-expiring access to whatever service they’ve chosen to purchase. As they move through their bid to become an officer, EYB clients can choose to upgrade their service to include additional training geared toward a number of other facets of the hiring process.

“There are two significant factors that I attribute the success of Earn Your Badge Members” Ehlers said. “The service is unlike anything available on the Internet or anywhere else for that matter. I was asked recently if I’m divulging inside secrets of the law enforcement hiring process and here’s my answer. Universities, colleges and technical schools in every corner of the planet teach similar content to their criminal justice students, unfortunately for the student, the training isn’t as impactful. EYB style training isn’t available in the classroom. As much as I hate to use a cliché, the content and training that I’ve set forth in Earn Your Badge is training on steroids! It’s powerful, comprehensive and very easy to learn and apply. The bottom line is this. The key to making the finish line in a law enforcement career search, is to stand out positively, and to be different than the other people that interview or test before and after you. EYB teaches its Members exactly how to do that.”

Although he wouldn’t give specifics, Ehlers stated that colleges and universities have asked him about his training program. “They’re very interested in bringing it to their criminal justice students and why wouldn’t they” he said. “The goal of every school is to prepare their students to get hired in their chosen profession and there is no better way to do that, than to give them the best and most cutting edge training available.” Ehlers would not disclose the names of the learning institutions that he’s spoken with but said a press release would most likely accompany the launch of EYB Academy, which is currently in the test stages and meant to serve higher learning institutions. “EYB Academy is very similar to EYB the public version, just designed in a more classroom-functional setting with built in exams and a final test-out which ensures the students have retained the information they’ve studied.

When asked what he believes attributes most greatly to the success of EYB, Chief Ehlers said, “It’s really very simple. The service was built around 26 years of real-world law enforcement experience and when people use the service and succeed, they tell others.”
