Viamede Resort & Dining (http://www.viamede.com), a 125 year-old landmark on the shores of prestigous Stoney Lake in the Kawarthas, has launched an ambitious program of classes throughout the winter months, with courses ranging from photography to folk art.

"Offering art classes to our guests has been one way to combat the unreliable weather as of late," says Viamede owner Ben Sämann. "We always have interesting activities going on -- even ones that allow guests to stay cozy inside by the fireplace. The Kawartha region has so much to offer visitors in terms of local art and heritage. It is wonderful that we are able to bring this experience to our guests regardless of what's going on outside. Everyone has a good time."

Upcoming classes include Michael Fortune, one of Canada's top custom furniture designers, who will be talking to people over dinner about his methods. Previous workshops have been great successes, with carved Viamede logos being given to staff as gifts, and a collection of fantastic photographs of the deer that roam the resort grounds, as a result of the photography courses offered.

When asked about the classes, guests rave. "I didn't know what it involved until I really got there, but Ralph has just been such a great instructor," says one guest of the stone carving course offered in February. The guest proudly holds up her creation, a small stone amulet of a rabbit.

The courses will continue until mid-April at which time the resort's summer programming will take over.
