Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) March 01, 2013
An Ohio man was charged with rape – a first degree felony, sexual battery and gross sexual imposition, both of which are felonies in the third degree. The defendant hired attorney Zach Meranda and attorney Douglas Funkhouser to represent him in his criminal case. (Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Case No. 11CR5537)
According to court documents, after more than a year and a half of trial preparation and a four-day trial, the jury acquitted the defendant of all charges, coming back with a verdict of not guilty. This not guilty verdict is a huge win for both attorneys and their respective law firms and more importantly, for their client! The defendant’s arrest record will be disappearing soon through an expungement since the jury found him not guilty.
In the state of Ohio the penalties for a first degree felony are: three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, or ten years in prison, and a $20,000 fine. For a third degree felony, the penalties include: one, two, three, four, or five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Therefore, if the defendant was convicted on one or more of the charges, he would have been facing years behind bars and thousands of dollars in monetary fines.
