Who is Bruno Mars?
Born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, famous singer Bruno Mars who writes songs and produces records has genes that scream music of various ethnicity. It becomes no wonder why his music easily captures the heart of listeners worldwide. His father, Peter Hernandez who is half Puerto Rican and half Jewish met his mother, (a Filipino with Spanish descent who migrated to Hawaii) in a show where both were performers. He was nicknamed “Bruno” by his father when he was two years old as reference to his strong facial resemblance to wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Bruno Mars is born to a musician family and was raised and born in Hawaii, where he has been performing on stage with his them for as long as he can remember. Mars acknowledges that everything he knows about music is deeply rooted in his genes. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2003 as soon as he graduated from high school to embark on a full time music career.
Recording Career:
It was easy for Bruno to land a record deal with Motown Records in 2004, but his career never took off. Together with Philip Lawrence who was also with Motown Records and Ari Levine, the trio formed The Smeezingtons and began writing songs. He was introduced to Aaron Bay-Schuck of Atlantic Records in 2006 and finally in 2009, Bruno Mars signed a contract with the said company. The years between 2004 and 2009 were spent writing and producing songs for other artists such as Flo Rida, Sean Kingston, Adam Levine, Brandy, Alexandra Burke and Travie McCoy.
In 2005, Bruno Mars released his debut album. Almost immediately, its carrier single, “Just the Way You Are” made its way to the music charts worldwide. Another single from the album, the song “Grenade” quickly reached popularity and is still a lovers’ anthem all over the world. It was not long before he earned his first Grammy award. He was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Producer of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Song Collaboration, and he won the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 53rd Grammy Awards. The years that followed saw him with many nominations and awards from different award giving bodies. The release of his second album called “Unorthodox Jukebox” in December 2012 quickly landed a spot in Billboard 200 at number two. The album was the fastest selling in 2012.
