De La Peña Group, P.A., the prestigious Miami-based law firm, is pleased to announce that Arturo Alvarez has joined the firm as of counsel.

After many years of government employment, including positions as Assistant State Attorney for Miami-Dade County (Eleventh Judicial Circuit) and Head of the Litigation (Torts) Division for the Office of the City Attorney (City of Miami), Mr. Alvarez went into private practice over 20 years ago. Mr. Alvarez’s vast trial experience includes criminal defense and complex-civil litigation. Mr. Alvarez has tried to verdict over 100 jury trial cases in both federal and state courts.

    Mr. Alvarez received his Juris Doctor in 1972 from the University of Florida. He was appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to the Article V Task Force in 1994, and has served in various Judicial Nominating Commissions (“JNCs”) including:

•     Eleventh Judicial Circuit JNC—Appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles
•     Florida Third District Court of Appeal JNC—Appointed by the Florida Bar
•     United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida JNC— Appointed by Senator Daniel "Bob" Graham
•     Florida Supreme Court JNC—Appointed by Governor Jeb Bush (two terms)

Mr. Alvarez is also a founding member of the Cuban American Bar Association, serving as president in 1994. Most recently, Arturo Alvarez was inducted into the City of North Miami Hall of Fame as part of the city’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.
