“Inofile truly advances the concept of scanning and elevates how Fujitsu products integrate into and enhance the healthcare environment and workflow,” said Scott Francis, senior vice president of marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc.

As patient data grows exponentially, unstructured information is an increasing challenge for healthcare organizations of all sizes. Acute care settings use a variety of devices to catalog patient data, from scanners to digital cameras to mobile devices to medical equipment. The number of devices used and patient information produced offers a unique set of challenges, problems that are solved by the lightweight, standards-based Inofile Messenger™ solution embedded in several scanning solutions from Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., the market leader in document imaging scanners, which will be demonstrated at the 2013 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition at Fujitsu booth #6340, March 3-7 in New Orleans.
Inofile Messenger is a web application that uses HL7 messaging to tag and structure unstructured clinical content. This structured content can be sent to virtually any EMR or document management system. Integrated to the specific workflows of a department, with the press of a button, emergency departments, inpatient, outpatient and nursing stations can now capture documents and faxes at the source, using secure web services and generating structured content in formats widely accepted by the healthcare industry. Messenger also supports basic XML structuring to integrate into non-clinical applications such as a document management system or advanced capture solution.
“Inofile truly advances the concept of scanning and elevates how Fujitsu products integrate into and enhance the healthcare environment and workflow,” said Scott Francis, senior vice president of marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “Combining the advanced capture solutions that our network scanner products provide with Inofile Messenger’s quick, simple and secure healthcare record integration helps our customers dramatically improve their processes. Unstructured documents are now seamlessly added to the complete patient record in real time.”
Designed with the HIMSS EMR Adoption Model in mind, Fujitsu scanners with Inofile Messenger are powered to provide structuring and exchange of clinical documentation that supports whatever stage a hospital or health system is at in implementing an EMR. Inofile Messenger structures documentation into commonly used clinical formats such as HL7, CDA, or XDS that are easily uploaded into any backend clinical system. Additionally, Messenger creates document and batch packages for submission into a document management system or advanced processing solution for further document QC and review by HIM.
“Similar to the philosophy of healthcare, we wanted to attack the source of unstructured documents rather than its symptoms,” noted Therasa bell, CEO, Inofile. “This is about completing the patient record. Gaining control and access to the documents and unstructured content that EMRs are not capable of handling. Without an effective method for handling all of this unstructured information, organizations resign to printing more documents and further burdening HIM staff with processing and reconciling information back to the patient record, causing more problems and requiring more resources. Our solutions bring structure to these unstructured documents immediately and integrate easily with an organization’s existing systems and clinical workflows, saving time and excessive costs.”
Inofile Messenger is available for the Fujitsu N1800 Network Scanner and the Fujitsu fi-6010N Network Scanner. Attendees interested in seeing a demonstration of Inofile Messenger and the Fujitsu network scanners can visit the Fujitsu booth, number 6340, at the 2013 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, March 3-7 in New Orleans
