Archimedes Alliance Donates to Outreach International

I want to make it possible for anyone to be a philanthropist, including young people like me, and people who don’t have a lot of money to give

In a campaign demonstrating the power of youth philanthropy and social media, the 15-year old founder of online charity Archimedes Alliance announced his organization’s inaugural $2 donation drive has yielded over $40,000 in total contributions for anti-poverty organization Outreach International.

Since Archimedes Alliance’s launch two years, then 13-year old founder Julien Leitner raised $21,700 for Outreach International; a matching fund program has doubled the gift to $40,000 for the human development agency’s critical global efforts.

Leitner launched the social-media-based charity to mark his 13th birthday with the mission of “making philanthropy acessible to people of ordinary means.” Utilizing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and email he asked for $2 donations and was answered by people from around the world who rallied to his call to leverage their small donations into a force that can “move the earth.”

“I want to make it possible for anyone to be a philanthropist, including young people like me, and people who don’t have a lot of money to give,” said Leitner.

He made this inaugural award and launched a second round of fundraising, determined to reach his goal of raising $2 million to help people in need. Donors to his site vote on one of three charities, with the winner receiving all the money raised during the campaign.

Julien named the organization after Archimedes, the Greek philosopher and mathematician who said, “give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I can move the Earth.”

Archimedes Alliance donates 95% of all funds received, requiring only 5% of total budget for operational expenses. Donations are administered by Charitable Partnership Fund, a 501(c)(3) public benefit organization.
