A recent report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the average jobless rate fell in 46 states in 2012. The employment-population ratios also increased in 26 states.
Job search site EmploymentCrossing.com supports this finding with its own data, which shows that there are at least 1.8 million job openings across the country. The BLS data shows that the annual average jobless rate declined in 46 states and in D.C. but rose in two states and stayed the same in two states.
The national employment-population ratio also went up to 58.6 percent in 2012. Connecticut and Iowa were the only two states with a significant fall in the employment-population ratio. West Virginia continued to be the state with the lowest employment-population ratio.
The BLS report notes that Nevada continued to be the state with the highest unemployment rate in 2012 at 11.1 percent, but EmploymentCrossing.com has been able to track down 12,730 jobs in Nevada. Similarly, the site has also tracked down 218,000 California jobs and almost 6,000 Rhode Island jobs. California and Rhode Island were at number two and three for having the highest unemployment rates in 2012.
In terms of industries and job creation, the healthcare industry continues to be the top jobs creator in the country with 375,000 healthcare jobs across the country. The remaining nine industries in the top ten list are:

Information Technology- 179,166 job openings
Nursing - 139,356 job openings
Engineering- 135,578 job openings
Hospitality - 135,093 job openings
Customer Service - 97,214 job openings

Accounting - 66,908 job openings
