Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

Interoperability a Key Component of Healthcare Reform and Advancement
The nation's health and financial future relies on providers from all areas of healthcare being able to easily and seamlessly exchange data and coordinate care. Technology companies have to extend beyond the walls and barriers that previously existed in healthcare and provide solutions that integrate both physical and mental health care.
As the premier industry knowledge leader and innovator for behavioral health, Netsmart’s presence at the conference includes a live demonstration of referral information being exchanged by providers in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Human Services’ National Coordinator for Health information Technology (ONC) as part of the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™. Netsmart is also conducting a pilot project as part of ONC’s Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P) Initiative.
Two Netsmart clients are also participating in the Interoperability Showcase with an interactive demonstration of live clinical information systems that allow users to assume the role of the patient and watch their personal health record (PHR) move across multiple points of care. Netsmart provides an innovative electronic patient referral system that links two providers -- Suncoast Center, Inc., and Personal Enrichment through Mental Health Services (PEMHS) -- with 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares, Inc., the local assistance hotline.
Using the Netsmart CareConnect™ solution, 2-1-1 Tampa can electronically transmit patient referrals and all required, authorized patient information securely and easily to either treatment facility. The facilities can also coordinate referrals between each other. Each provider has visibility into the process – when a referral is pushed, when it is received, and the ability to accept or reject a referral. As many as 700 consumers are referred between the two providers each year. The customized referral solution provides faster exchange of pertinent consumer health information, leading to increased safety and improved care. The exchange of referral information in a Health and Human services environment has significant impacts on client readmits, and even client suicides. Studies indicate that clients who do not attend an outpatient appointment after discharge are more likely to be re-hospitalized.

Acute Care and Innovation: Accountable care and care coordination are drivers that are causing all organizations to focus on driving down costs and improving outcomes. Netsmart will demonstrate how to accomplish this simultaneously with a look at how easily we integrate primary care with behavioral healthcare. Ease of use and focus on workflows make this a must-see at the Netsmart exhibit at HIMSS (Booth #2451).
Meaningful Use, Up Close and Personal: Netsmart is also featured in the HIMSS Meaningful Use Experience (Booth #149 – Kiosk C8 & C15), a special section of the exhibit area that puts attendees in the middle of proven, certified EHR solutions. As a leader in Meaningful Use innovation, awareness building, education and advocacy for behavioral and public health providers nationwide, Netsmart offers four Complete ONC-ATCB Certified EHRs to address the complexity of programs and diversity of providers in Health and Human Services. Netsmart will demonstrate its EHR solutions and how they meet Meaningful Use requirements in both acute care and ambulatory settings. The demonstration will show successful compliance through enhanced workflow, proven implementation techniques and individual criteria expertise that enables successful Meaningful Use attestation.
Behavioral Health Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs): Kevin Scalia, executive vice president, Netsmart, and Michael Mittleman, senior vice president, PSCH, Inc., will co-present "How IT Facilitates Building an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Health Home for People with Mental Illness." The presentation features insights and best practices for the innovative concept of behavioral health-centered Health Homes as a strong vehicle for delivering integrated care. Netsmart is leading the way toward behavioral health-centered Health Homes in several states, including Kansas, Missouri, New York and Rhode Island, with the goal of providing quality care to the 'whole person' at lower costs
