Robert P. Thornton, President & CEO of IDEA, stated, “The International District Energy Association (IDEA) commends President Obama for selecting Gina McCarthy as EPA Administrator and Ernie Moniz to lead the Department of Energy. At this juncture, when both our national economy and our environment demand practical energy solutions that deliver higher efficiency and lower emissions with stronger resiliency for industry and communities, we look forward to working with these experienced and insightful leaders on deploying common-sense solutions like combined heat & power and district energy.”

“During her tenure at EPA, Gina McCarthy has demonstrated a willingness to work with industry to remove barriers and develop policies that unlock the potential for CHP/district energy to provide greater energy resiliency and higher efficiency as a practical solution to reduce emissions,” stated Thornton.

“Ernie Moniz brings to DOE a deep understanding of the respective economic strengths and market applications of a wide range of clean energy technologies and the importance of scalable energy efficiency such as offered by CHP/district energy.”
