USA Funds® reports the completion of 250,000 lessons through its financial literacy and student success program, USA Funds Life Skills®.
Since USA Funds Life Skills moved to its current online platform, in 2009, more than 75,000 students at colleges and universities throughout the nation have taken the program’s 34 courses. The lessons focus on paying for college, setting goals, academic success, preparing for graduation, and balancing school and personal life.
The 250,000th USA Funds Life Skills lesson, recently completed at Los Angeles City College, was “What Do Credit Scores Mean to Me?”
Los Angeles City College encourages all of its Stafford loan borrowers to complete the USA Funds Life Skills course “How Do I Live on a Budget While I’m in School?” as well as two additional lessons from the online curriculum.
The college began offering USA Funds Life Skills in 2012 to build a foundation for enhanced financial literacy among students, said Michell Anderson, Los Angeles City College financial aid manager.
“USA Funds Life Skills is a perfect option for our students,” Anderson said. “The program provides financial literacy information that is so important in a convenient, online format.”
USA Funds Life Skills allows Anderson to track course status and completion information online, and he analyzes learning outcomes for Los Angeles City College students.
“Invariably the results show that students are learning something new, and they’re finding it useful,” he said. “There definitely is value in the USA Funds Life Skills lessons the students are taking.”
More than 150 colleges and universities nationwide have adopted the USA Funds Life Skills curriculum. After taking USA
Funds Life Skills courses, more than 94 percent of students reported changing at least one behavior related to managing personal finance or school life issues.
“The completion of the 250,000th USA Funds Life Skills course is a testament to the value that schools continue to place on the program to support their default prevention and student success efforts,” said Denise B. Feser, USA Funds senior vice president, School and Student Services.
