"We are pleased to help the New York State Education Department develop tools for their educators to further enhance education outcomes," Kent Freeman, Chief Operating Officer, Vital Source Technologies, Inc.
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 06, 2013
Ingram Content Group Inc., today announced that the New York State Education Department has selected Vital Source Technologies, Inc., in collaboration with SchoolWorks® LLC., to develop a comprehensive library of professional development videos to support the implementation of Common Core Learning Standards throughout New York State.
"Today is a time of great transformation in our classrooms, and we are pleased to help the New York State Education Department develop tools for their educators to further enhance education outcomes and close gaps in achievement through Common Core Standards," said Kent Freeman, Chief Operating Officer, Vital Source Technologies, Inc. "At Ingram, we are fully committed to the education space and look forward to putting our full-service media solutions to work for the benefit of all involved."
To complete the New York State Department of Education's Effective Teacher and Principal Practice Video Production Project, the Vital Source media team will work closely with the New York State Education Department and SchoolWorks® LLC to develop an extensive library of videos to serve as professional development resources for educators across the state of New York. The team will identify and select a representative group of teachers across New York State to participate in this project. Teachers will be coached using the states new Common Core Curriculum and then videotaped as they implement lessons across the full range of grades and content areas.
The $3.7M project, funded by Race to the Top, a U.S. Department of Education competitive grant created to spur innovation and reforms in state and local district K-12 education, will provide over 100 hours of videos for the Engage NY web site, an online professional development tool for New York teachers used to support teaching and learning in classrooms across the state of New York. The videos, that support Common Core Standards implementation, are expected to be complete by June, 2014.
The Common Core State Standards were created through a collaborative effort on behalf of the National Governor’s Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. The New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards are internationally-benchmarked and evidence-based standards, and serve as a consistent set of expectations for what students should learn and be able to do, so that every student across New York State is on track for college and career readiness.
Vital Source Technologies, Inc., is known for its VitalSource Bookshelf® e-textbook platform. With 2.9 million registered users on 6,000 campuses worldwide, the platform is the preferred and most used e-textbook delivery solution in higher education today.
The New York State Education Department project will be managed by its Vital Source media services group, a leading developer of award-winning interactive applications and rich media products for educational publishers, enhanced e-textbook applications, interactive learning objects and e-whiteboard content, and state-of-the-art video, audio, and animation production services.
