Noted Georgetown University Professor & MSNBC contributor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson and National CARES Mentoring Movement CEO & Essence Magazine Editor-in-Chief Emeritus Susan L. Taylor, have been tapped to host The NPN 2014 Africa Leadership Summit & Music Festival at Sea. Set to sail February 17-27, 2014 aboard the Silver Wind, the 6-star, intimate, 296-passenger all-suites pride of Silversea Cruises, the stars seems perfectly aligned for success. “It’s a conference cruise aboard one of the most beautiful ships in our fleet sailing to one of the most magificent places on earth,” says Sean J. Mahoney, Silversea Cruises Global Vice President. “With its unique culture, history, and incredible natural beauty, Africa is hard to ignore. It’s like a jewel set in the Atlantic Ocean calling to the gem of our fleet, and I am very proud of our decision to partner with the National Professionals Network (NPN) in this exclusive offering.”

The 10-night cruise will port in Capetown, Port Elizabeth, Mozambique, Richards Bay, Durbin, East London and Johannesburg. NPN President William Tedford, M.D. believes this educational and entertainment odyssey will “redefine ‘the middle passage.’” Citing this cruise as the most significant one in NPN’s 22-year history,Tedford marvels at what this journey will mean to the more than 250 NPN guests who have already registered. “When you consider the fact that a little over 200 years ago, our ancestors came from Africa as sub-level cargo on slave ships, and that next year we will be returning to Africa in top-level suites with butler service on a luxury cruise ship during Black History Month, that’s really something to celebrate.”

By day, onboard guests attend a variety of “Sailing to Success” seminars for which they earn Continuing Medical Education (CME), Continuing Legal Education (CLE), or Continuing Education Units (CEU). At night, guests unwind to the smooth sounds of The NPN Music Festival at Sea which, for many NPN travellers, is as much a draw as the ports of call. “Ultimately, it’s the fellowship and sense of family that makes the NPN experience extraordinary,” Tedford adds. “We take some of the busiest and most successful people in the world to places they love to go with people they have come to know as family.”

This cruise represents a joint venture between NPN and Silversea. Both organizatons are excited about what this partnership means for the future of upscale luxury conference cruising.
