In response to the Priceless Gown Project, a prom donation charity, Long Island prom dresses retailer, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, applauds the efforts of the charity and urges girls to donate used dresses.

On March 7, Estelle Schlossberg, owner of Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, responds to an article published by ABC 2 News, detailing a Baltimore charity that helps girls afford prom dresses.

According to ABC 2 News, Brianna Garrison, a senior at a Baltimore high school, received a free prom dress from the Priceless Gown Project. Launched in 2004, the Project helps teens that can’t afford to go to prom. The Priceless Gown Project aims to provide free new or gently used dresses to junior or senior girls in need, ABC 2 News reports.

“The Priceless Gown Project really helped me accomplish becoming Prom Queen and I also won Best Dressed at the Prom,” Garrison said to ABC 2 News. “It really helped me a lot and I would do it over and over again if I could.”

As owner of a Long Island prom dresses retailer, Schlossberg says there are many organizations that donate used dresses to girls who are unable to afford the costs involved with prom. “I think it’s a great charity because new dresses are donated as well,” she says. “Though many girls only wear a prom dress once, there’s something about putting on a brand new dress that makes a girl feel extra special. These girls deserve to feel special for prom night.”

ABC 2 News reports that hundreds of students come to the Priceless Gown Project event each year. Organizers partner with guidance counselors, youth ministries and other mentor programs to make sure the girls that need help are in attendance. The Project offers dresses of all sizes, colors and lengths, the article said, as well as stylists performing free makeovers.

“Everyone often forgets that the dress is not the only part of prom,” Schlossberg says. “While it is the main focus for these young girls, there are other things like shoes and makeup that help to complete the dress. This event takes care of the whole shebang for these girls and it’s a lovely thing.”
