Ingenious Med’s charge capture and billing solution for smartphones and tablets sees record usage in January

Ingenious Med's mobile PQRS tool prompts physicians at the time of care to ensure compliance and patient safety.

Accurate clinical charge capture and instant coding compliance feedback can result in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in unrealized revenue.

Ingenious Med, provider of the nation’s largest charge capture and physician performance solution, impower, has seen a marked increase in the number of mobile users of its software.

“Smartphones and tablets have become pervasive and indispensable in the care of patients medically,” said Steve Liu, M.D. founder of Ingenious Med. “As more and more clinicians expand their mobile point-of-care toolkits, we’ve seen a drastic increase in the number of clinicians using our software on mobile devices.”

During 2012, Ingenious Med saw a 380 percent increase in the usage of its impower mobile applications. The company reports that now 21 percent of licensed impower clinicians are using mobile devices, and that there are more than 100,000 encounters captured monthly through impower mobile.

Of these users, 92 percent are using devices running on Apple’s iOS, compared to eight percent who are using Google’s Android operating system. Further, 30 percent of the encounters captured by impower mobile are done so on a tablet, such as Apple’s iPad or Samsung’s Galaxy tab.

Ingenious Med’s point-of-care solution automates the revenue and charge capture processes, allowing physicians to capture a larger number of charges while improving the quality of care. The application also provides cleaner, more accurate bills, enabling billers to review and submit physician charges within hours of an encounter minimizing charge lag and increasing hospital revenue.

“Accurate clinical charge capture and instant coding compliance feedback can result in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in unrealized revenue,” said Liu. “With increasing pressures on hospital margins, senior healthcare executives are seeking new ways to reduce the subsidies paid to their physician profit and loss and generate additional revenue.”
