On March 12, mattress store Online Bed Quilt responds to an article published by The Week, which discusses five ways technology can help people sleep better.
According to The Week, about 50-70 million U.S. adults have problems sleeping. Sleep problems might be alleviated, reports The Week, by using certain mobile apps that won’t disrupt sleep patterns.
The Week suggests using the White Noise app, a free app that plays ambient sounds to help you fall asleep, which is available for both the iOS and Android.
Justin Maas, a representative from mattress store, Online Bed Quilt, says the White Noise app is perfect for people who enjoy listening to the sound of the TV as they fall asleep. “Sometimes people need to hear soft sounds to fall asleep,” he says. “These sounds could include anything from the hum of an air conditioner or the buzz of a TV to waves crashing on the beach. You can fix these sounds to shut off or change after a certain amount of time.”
According to The Week, troubled sleepers would benefit by upgrading alarm clock sounds because harsh noises tend to make it more difficult to get up.
Sleep monitoring apps are also available for free, Maas says. “There are heaps of apps out there that can measure your sleep progress, your heart rate and how often you move,” he says. “Using apps like Sleep Cycle can really help get to the bottom of your sleep problems. Perhaps your mattress is causing you to toss and turn, or maybe you have sleep apnea. These apps can give you some clues.”
