Acadian Ambulance honored 11-year-old Harrison West with a Meritorious Service Award for remaining calm and getting his stepfather, David Nieder, help after he suffered a seizure.

West was watching television at home when Nieder collapsed. He promptly called 911 and Acadian Dispatcher and Paramedic Kelly Koning remained on the phone with him until the ambulance arrived minutes later.

“Harrison was so calm and collected during the whole ordeal,” said Koning. “He did an incredible job and because of his bravery his stepfather was able to survive.”

This morning Acadian went to West’s class at Vancleave Upper Elementary in Mississippi to honor him with the award, and presented the young man with a plaque and certificate in front of his classmates.
