It has been reported in sciencedaily.com that a research team from Brown University, Case Western Reserve University, Columbian University and University of California- Santa Barbara have joined forces to work on a new project. It is believed that a greater understanding of the source and orientation of light in light-emitting thin films could lead to better LEDs.
Rashid Zia, Assistant Professor of Engineering at Brown University explains this by stating “If you were making an LED using those layered materials and you know that the electronic excitations were happening across an interface, then there’s a specific way you want to design the structure to get all of that light out and increase its overall efficiency.”
Online retailer, Simple Lighting co. offers an extensive range of indoor and outdoor lights, specialising in LED strip lighting and tape lighting. The company are heavily involved within the industry and are optimistic about the outcome of the research. A representative shares their thoughts.
“We’re really looking forward to hearing the outcome of this research. What’s exciting is that it is just one of a number of projects recently looking into how we can make LEDs even more effective. We spoke recently about the Dundee University school of Engineering’s research into making white light LEDs more efficient and this looks just as promising.
“Despite the abundance of work going into improving LEDs, light emitting diodes are already much more energy efficient than typical bulbs. Homeowners can take advantage of this through the money they save on electricity as well as the knowledge that they are helping the environment. Here at Simple Lighting we stock a great selection of LED home and garden lighting that we’re adding to all the time.”
Established in 2009, Simple Lighting Company aims to provide high quality lighting at some of the most competitive prices on the web. The company has grown considerably in recent years and supplies over 4000 products, specialising in LED lighting, LED tape, LED strip lights as well as indoor and outdoor lighting.
