Mouret imagined a range of bags to be worn alongside the full RTW collection, with designs that translate easily from day to evening. An emphasis is placed on clean essential shapes and beautiful materials favoured by Roland Mouret that will endure time and wear.
Four styles; ‘Le Sept’ chain shoulder bag, ‘Hugo’ clutch, ‘Monceau’ buckle satchel, and ‘Paris-Paris’ frame pouch make up the debut collection. Materials selected from the finest Italian tanneries include calfskin, goatskin, stingray print kidskin, suede, and patent. The colour palette is deep and wintery with earthy tones of taupe, clay and dark brown accented with touches of petrol blue, emerald green, white and burgundy.
Attention to detail is showcased in functional elements: a secret mirror stowed in the clutch, a chain strap with flat links to sit comfortably on the shoulder. Antique gold finish hardware throughout the collection lends a tough edge to the collection, with branding engraved on a narrow bevelled gold bar. Other key details include the lock clasp, a lucite bar handle and signature buckle.
Mouret says of his designer bags collection: "The most important new category since I created the dress is the bag. I am so happy to start this journey and to present to you: Le Sept, Monceau, Paris-Paris and Hugo. The collection has a heavy mix of French attitude, making them the perfect complement to the Roland Mouret woman. Designing leather goods pushes you to question your creativity and bags are for me the next level of my design maturity."
The Roland Mouret fashion brand (19RM Ltd) is a joint venture between Roland Mouret and Simon Fuller's XIX entertainment. Formed in August 2006 as "RM by the designer Roland Mouret" it followed Mouret’s 8 years of critical acclaim within the global fashion industry. In September 2010 rights to the 'Roland Mouret" name were acquired by the venture and in March 2011 the first Roland Mouret store was opened at 8 Carlos Place, Mayfair, London, in the form of a "maison" with atelier and HQ on the premises.
Mouret has become recognized for the use of draping and for the "perfect" fitted dress, including the iconic Galaxy, Moon, Titanium and Pigalle styles. 2012 saw the launch of the Roland Mouret shoe and bridal collections as well as the expansion of its successful sunglasses line. Further global expansion is planned for 2013, after three consecutive years of strong double digit growth.
