The National Flight Academy (NFA) and the University of West Florida (UWF) officially joined forces in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education and Professional Development for the Ambition program in a ceremony that took place today at the National Flight Academy facility. Retired Navy Vice Admiral Gerald Hoewing, President of the National Flight Academy, and Dr. Judith Bense, President of the University of West Florida, signed the agreement and addressed the audience on this unique educational partnership.

A new benefit was announced today for 11th and 12th graders who attend the NFA’s Ambition program. They can now earn up to three college credit hours in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through the new partnership with UWF.

Both the NFA and UWF bring exceptional skills to the table that, when combined, form the one-of-a-kind Ambition program for 7th -12th graders and the new Professional Development program that provides the same high impact, engaging experiences for adults seeking to improve their workplace skills. It all starts with an immersive, aviation-based story. The NFA team works in unison with the UWF team to weave in STEM learning objectives with other important 21st century skills including critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and communication. It all leads to an unparalled learning experience for our current and future leaders.

“We are honored to formalize the long-standing relationship between our two organizations. The partnership with UWF brings the academic strength and credibility that makes the National Flight Academy a best-in-the-world learning capability that ties STEM principles and 21st century skills to the magic of flight,” said Vice Admiral Gerald Hoewing.

"This partnership is a game changer. It has the potential to revolutionize STEM education," said UWF President Judith Bense. "We are delighted to have been a partner from the beginning and will now step up and take the responsibility of the enrollment process and the 5 1/2 day residential academic experience."
