Back Door Channels & Confluence of Events Poster

‘Back Door Channels’ is an important reminder that peace can be achieved not through guns and bombs, but through the lost art of diplomacy and the necessary secrecy involved.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 11, 2013

Shalom TV is airing a two-hour special of "Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace" back-to-back with the premiere of "Confluence of Events" on March 17 at 9pm EST (8pm CST).

The multi-award-winning documentary film "Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace", based on the book of the same title written by Leon H. Charney, reveals the true story of the men who acted largely behind the scenes during the historic peace process between Israel and Egypt in 1979.

The film takes the audience behind the public veil obscured by a first of its kind White House issued media blackout on the events, and reveals the negotiations leading up to one of the greatest historical achievement: the 1979 Camp David Peace Accords and Treaty between Egypt and Israel. For one brief moment, Arab and Jew put their differences aside and embraced peace. Menachem Begin, Anwar El-Sadat and President Jimmy Carter were the strategic geniuses that crafted the peace, but it was the men behind-the-scenes, some driven by deeply held faith and conviction, others merely by raw ambition, who found a way to get them together and drive the peace process.

Following the film is "Confluence of Events", an-hour long, organic one-on-one conversation with Leon Charney. In this exclusive report, Charney reveals the consequential role he played as a backdoor channel and trusted advisor to President Jimmy Carter throughout the Middle East peace process. It gives in-depth insights behind the secret negotiations; captured for the very first time in this rare interview. Charney says, “We now live in a world where Wikileaks and the internet make it nearly impossible to negotiate using secret diplomacy. ‘Back Door Channels’ is an important reminder that peace can be achieved not through guns and bombs, but through the lost art of diplomacy and the necessary secrecy involved.”

“We are thrilled to share 'Back Door Channels' and 'Confluence of Events' with Shalom TV viewers,” said Matthew Tollin, Executive Producer and former executive of NYC Media Group. “This is one of the most important films on television this year considering the world’s political turbulence. A greater knowledge and appreciation of the past is imperative for a better understanding of what’s happening today.”

"'Back Door Channels' is an extraordinary film that permits one of the most dramatic chapters in Israeli history to unfold with all the suspense, intrigue and power of any feature film today," said Shalom TV President, Mark S. Golub. "I am so glad Leon Charney and the film's producers are making it available to the hundreds of thousands of viewers who watch Shalom TV across the country. It will literally change the way they understand the Middle East and the challenges inherent in any contemporary peace process."

The full-length documentary film "Back Door Channels" was released in U.S. theaters last year, premiering at New York City’s Lincoln Center. In its review of the film, 'Variety' called “Back Door Channels” “riveting” and “enthralling.” The film has been screened at festivals around the world including: Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Monte Carlo Festival, Jerusalem International Film Festival and Atlantic Jewish Film Festival among others.
