The employees at Mentoring Minds have a spirit of service. It’s more than just part of their mission statement or policy; it’s part of the Mentoring Minds ethos. Because of a shared desire to give back to the community, Mentoring Minds created a program called MindSHARE. MindSHARE encourages each employee to be an active member and volunteer in the community. Employee-nominated organizations are evaluated by the employee-based committee on several factors such as employee involvement and organizational reach. Young Audiences of Northeast Texas and the Children Are a Gift Foundation are the recent organizations to receive the MindSHARE award. MindSHARE selects and awards funds to non-profit organizations quarterly, up to $20,000 a year.

An award was given to Young Audiences of Northeast Texas in the amount of $2,500. Connie Moore, Educational Consultant for Product Development, nominated the organization for this award. Connie’s previous work as the principal at Andy Woods Elementary School in Tyler, Texas introduced her to the organization. Andy Woods Elementary brought in Young Audiences of Northeast Texas to serve teachers and students during Connie’s tenure as principal. Connie has served on the organization’s board since July 2009.

The mission of Young Audiences of Northeast Texas is to bring quality arts-in-education experiences into Northeast Texas schools. The organization uses the arts to enrich the lives of children and enhance their education. They also provide trained teaching artists who bring performances, workshops and residencies to schools. In honor of their quality of work, as well as their potential to develop or expand professional development programs for teachers, Young Audiences of Northeast Texas was selected as one of 14 teams nationwide to attend the John F. Kennedy Center Partners in Education Institute.

The Children Are a Gift Foundation also received an award of $2,500. The organization was nominated by employee Ashley Kutach. Before her employment at Mentoring Minds, Ashley was personally affected by the ministry of this foundation. Ashley has seen the reach that the Children Are a Gift Foundation has had and continues to have in the East Texas community.

The mission of the Children Are a Gift Foundation is to celebrate the lives of all children, including children who are no longer with us and children with special needs. The foundation strives to provide ways that family and friends can remember and celebrate the lives of their children. The Children Are a Gift Foundation has done this by building the Children’s Park of Tyler, a place with opportunities for both natural play and quiet meditation. The park was built by the Children Are a Gift Foundation and donated to the City of Tyler in 2004.
