Houston, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2013
1. Highest bill: Houston, TX at $146.51
2. Lowest bill: Los Angeles, CA at $42.93
3. Largest Month over Month (MOM) increase (in this case, smallest decrease): San Diego, CA from $68.47 to $66.02
4. Largest MOM decrease: Orlando, FL from $161.98 to $119.64
The city with the highest bill for February was Houston, TX at $146.51. None of the average bills in any of the index cities actually increased from January to February, but the smallest decrease was seen in San Diego, CA, which was a decrease of only $2.45. This is most likely due to San Diego’s mild seasonal changes- while other cities tend to be rapidly coming out of their coldest month, San Diego’s mild winters warrant less of an energy usage peak in January compared to spring usage.
Like January, in February Los Angeles, CA once again has the lowest bill at $42.93, down from its yearly peak in January. Orlando, FL saw the greatest decrease, which was a decrease of $42.34 compared to its January average bill. Orlando sees a significant drop in usage between January and February, which is likely the biggest contributor to this change, since rates did not change at all.
1. Highest bill: Philadelphia, PA at $182.99
2. Lowest bill: Dallas, TX at $17.66
3. Largest MOM increase (in this case, smallest MOM decrease): Dallas, TX, from $17.79 to $17.66
4. Larges MOM decrease: Philadelphia, PA, from $238.74 to $182.99
The highest overall bill for February was Philadelphia, PA at $182.99, continuing its streak of having the highest natural gas bills this winter. New York is the runner up, but is still significantly lower at $165.43. No cities saw their average bill increase between January and February, but Dallas saw the smallest decrease, from $17.79 to $17.66. As we have mentioned before in past Index Trends reports, this is because the biggest chunk of Dallas natural gas bills is the fixed monthly charge, so seasonal changes don’t have much of an effect.
Dallas also has the lowest bill in February ($17.66). Though there are cities in the index with lower usage, Dallas comparably has lower rates. There are also cities with lower base rates, but these cities either have significantly higher usage, or they have significantly higher delivery charges per therm. The city that saw the largest month over month decrease was Philadelphia, PA, from $238.74 to $182.99. This decrease was not large enough, however, to keep it from having the highest bill in the month of February, as mentioned above. The decrease was due to a significant drop in usage coming out of the winter months, as rates remained the same.
