Ed tech designer and manufacturer IPEVO makes popular document cameras that have long been compatible with both PC and Mac. Now, these doc cams are also compatible with Apple's iPad thanks to the company's newest product, the WS-01 Wireless Station for iPad and USB Document Cameras. This small device allows the Ziggi, Ziggi-HD and Point 2 View USB Document Cameras to stream real-time video wirelessly to the iPad. The WS-01 is now available through the IPEVO Online Store at http://www.ipevo.com.
The WS-01 connects to one of the IPEVO doc cams through a standard USB port. Using an existing WiFi network, the WS-01 then wirelessly streams the doc cam's image to iPad. The free IPEVO Whiteboard app — available for download at the Apple App Store — is required to display the stream. From there, the stream can be projected onto a large screen via a physical VGA adapter. Or, Apple TV can be used to project the image wirelessly, giving users the wireless freedom to roam and interact with students or audience members.
An important additional feature of IPEVO Whiteboard is the ability to use simple touchscreen commands to annotate, emphasize, and otherwise highlight key parts of the image. Thus, the WS-01 and IPEVO Whiteboard turn iPad into a portable interactive whiteboard, the contents of which can be displayed on large screens in real time. Educators, businesspeople, and lecturers will find a variety of uses for the setup, which IPEVO calls a "complete teaching and presenting solution."
Also of note for this product is a "Live-view" mode which streams video via Internet browser, making the WS-01 also compatible with PC and Mac. Additionally, the WS-01 can connect devices to the Internet if a direct connection is not feasible. The WS-01 also features an SD card reader and a USB disk drive which can be managed with a browser-based file system.
"Educators have long used IPEVO's document cameras on their PCs and Macs, but with the release of the Wireless Station, a new world is opened up with iPad compatibility," said Royce Hong, CEO and big head of design of IPEVO. "The tablet is a crucial new teaching tool, and IPEVO has bridged the tech gap so that captured documents and 3D objects can be displayed as well as annotated through iPad. It's an exciting new development for teachers and presenters, who now have an interactive and easy-to-use whiteboard in the palms of their hands."
The WS-01 Wireless Station for iPad and USB Document Cameras, along with IPEVO's popular line of document cameras, are available at the IPEVO Online Store at http://www.ipevo.com. The IPEVO Whiteboard app is available at no charge through the Apple App Store.
