Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) March 13, 2013
Deborah Mackin, founder and principle leadership coach at New Directions, an innovative workforce training and development firm in North Bennington, Vermont, has been chosen to speak at the Society for Human Resource Management’s Talent Management Conference and Exposition on Sunday April 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mackin’s presentation will focus on fundamental strategies to utilize an organization’s aging workforce and develop skills to prepare the new workforce. Mackin has been coaching executives, CEOs, leaders, teams, and managers for over 28 years in well known organizations like Coca-Cola, Alcoa, Delta Faucet, AT&T, Sanofi Pasteur and the U.S. Navy. Mackin rose to international recognition with her three team-building books with the most recent having been published in 2007 by AMACOM, The Team-Building Tool Kit, Second Edition. Earlier this year, Mackin was recognized by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as one of 30 others world-wide as an Influential Voice of Quality.
Mackin’s workshop will analyze the generation turnover organizations will be experiencing in the next 5 years. With the baby boomer generation retiring at a rate of 6,000 a day there will be visible talent gaps and holes in the workplace. In a recent survey only 40% of organizations have planned for this gap. The workshop will highlight how to utilize skill scans, applied skill shortage analysis, succession planning, cross-training strategies, recruitment initiatives and mentoring programs to help prepare and position organizations for growth and sustainability.
Mackin explains, “With changing generations in the workplace and the transfer of knowledge and power, organizations have to adapt to remain profitable and agile in this new work environment. Young professionals, or Millennials, have different skill sets as well as a different way of thinking than the baby boomer generation. Gen X needs to be prepared to take over some of the senior level positions that will become available in the coming years. There are a lot of different things going on in any given organization or industry. Are organizations preparing for that switch? We’ll dig into that question at the presentation.”
The 2013 SHRM Talent Management Conference, will also have keynotes by John Jacobs, Chief Creative Optimist of Life is Good, Jane McGonigal, Game Designer and Futurist, and Kevin Carroll, best selling author of Rules of the Red Rubber Ball, What's Your Red Rubber Ball?! and The Red Rubber Ball.
