Merging two core facility management systems into one best-in-class solution

Creating a single community standard for core facility management will unlock major opportunities for our customers to capture the most value from their investments in shared resources.

iLab Solutions and Vanderbilt University, the two major providers of core facility management software, today announced a strategic partnership. Over the next two years, the two organizations will merge Vanderbilt’s CORES (Core Ordering & Reporting Enterprise System™) software with iLab’s core facility management suite to develop a single standard for the research community. The unified platform will leverage iLab’s implementation, user support, and professional services team with Vanderbilt’s academic perspective, software engineering, and decades of experience operating core facilities.

Over 900 core facilities at more than 70 research institutions in seven countries use either iLab or Vanderbilt solutions today. In addition to facilitating cross-institutional collaboration, the unified platform will also enjoy economies of scale that will enable more robust future software upgrades, exceptional implementation and user support services.

iLab CEO, Tad Fallows, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center Director of Systems Development, Office Research-IT, Keith Dance, will jointly oversee the transformation of Vanderbilt’s CORES and iLab’s platform into the single solution. In the near term, both companies will continue to provide support for their customers independently.

'”We are thrilled to announce our partnership,” said Fallows. “Together we will be even better positioned to deliver the best core facility management solutions to the global research community. Creating a single community standard for core facility management will unlock major opportunities for our customers to capture the most value from their investments in shared resources.”

“CORES and iLab have developed two approaches to solving the same challenges. We are incorporating methods, modules and functionality from each system,” stated Dance. “We will continue to engage our customers to ensure we are developing a system that meets their needs and have made it our priority to ensure a seamless transition for all scientists."

Since 2008, the CORES and iLab systems have each enjoyed greater than 100 percent year-on-year user growth, with almost half of the leading research organizations in North America relying on one of the systems to support core facilities today. The partnership expects continued rapid adoption of unified standards.
