Many people assume that part of aging is the loss of nearvision, but with modern technology such as premium IOLs and Monovision LASIK, your eyes don't have to act their age!
Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) March 13, 2013
Cleveland LASIK Surgeon Michael Rom, M.D. has seen his share of patients that suffer from presbyopia, a condition that affects up close vision for those over 40. Recent exercise science has placed an emphasis on maintaining a proper fitness regimen, prompting many Americans to try and exercise regularly. However the part of the body with the most muscles, the eyes, often goes unconsidered and ignored.
"Many people assume that part of aging is the loss of nearvision, but with modern technology such as premium IOLs and Monovision LASIK, your eyes don't have to act their age," says Michael Rom, M.D., head of Insight Eye Center in Cleveland.
According to Dr. Rom, Presbyopia is the leading cause of nearvision loss in those over 40. The condition affects the natural lens of the eye, causing it to lose flexibility. Objects that once could be held close and seen clearly, now must be held at a farther distances. Presbyopia is why most individuals over 40 require reading glasses later in life, whereas they did not before.
Dr. Rom recommends several different treatments for his Cleveland eye patients to combat the onset of presbyopia. One of the more common vision solutions is through monovision LASIK. The procedure is simple and quick, correcting one eye for distance while the other is made mildly near sighted. The resulting vision soon feels natural and makes tasks such as reading and computer work much easier.
For patients that are over 55, and might have the beginning signs of cataracts or advanced cataracts, Dr. Rom and Insight Eye Center offers Premium IOLs. During cataract surgery, Dr. Rom will remove the cloudy lens (the cataract) and replace it with a advanced premium lens implant, also known as a PIOL. This lens may allow the patient to see near, intermediate and distance vision with little or no dependency on glasses.
"Here at Insight Eye Center, we offer Cleveland LASIK patients access to state-of-the-art vision solutions that can greatly help with presbyopia, and help patients regain their near vision," says Dr. Rom.
