The DD form 577 is also used in appointing accounting officers under applicable law, who furnish source information or service to a certifying or distributing officer who supports the payment procedure.
The form DD 577 can be used for other appointments as well if the appointing authority feels that the form is apt for the purpose.
Many a sections are provided in this form, and the first section is where the name of the commander or the appointing authority has to be entered. Entering the title of the appointing authority is necessary. Mention about the appointing authority’s location and DOD component is obligatory.
The signature of the commander is needed in the block provided. Enter the digital signature only after the completion of items 6to 16, as this signature will lock the above mentioned items.
Move on to section 2, enter the appointee’s name and also the social security number. The complete social security number is needed to assess the financial responsibility confirmation. Enter the appointee’s title. Enter the name, proper address, telephone number of the DOD component and the organizational activity for which the appointment is being done. Enter the date on which the appointment is going to be effective. Indicating the intention of the appointment has to be marked as ‘X’ in the proper box. The authorized appointing authority should classify the types of payments only if the authorized person feels it’s necessary. Try to include relevant information’s if any. Make all the list of rules and regulations transparent so that the appointee can follow them, understand what is expected from the appointment and discharge his responsibilities to the best of his ability.
Then the appointee prints the name and enters the legal signature in the respective spaces provided. Completing section 1V terminates the original appointment as of the effective date. Complete a new DD form 577 if partial authority is to be preserved. Enter the effective termination date. The appointee will sign in the provided space accepting the revocation of the appointment. The authorizing authority should write down his name, title and put the legal signature in the proper places.
