Pasadena, CA, March 12, 2013 – The February 2013 jobs report released on March 8 shows that the jobs scenario certainly seems to have improved as the report showed that around 236,000 net nonfarm jobs were created. Job search website EmploymentCrossing.com has also been able to find 1.9 million job openings across the country.

The unemployment rate in the country also fell to 7.7 percent, with the total number of unemployed standing at 12 million as of February. The number of people in the long term unemployed section (unemployed for over 27 weeks or more) is now 4.8 million. This means that almost 40 percent of the unemployed population is now long term unemployed. The figures for marginally attached and discouraged workers also continue to be high.

The main job generating industries were professional and business services, especially construction and health care. The construction industry added 48,000 jobs in February and there were 32,000 healthcare jobs added across the country. The IT industry was another huge jobs creator with 20,000 net jobs created last month. The BLS report credits most of the growth in this industry with job gains in the motion picture and sound recording industry. The retail sector also added 20,000 jobs.
