Yumi Media responds to newly established vegetarian locations of US food giants such as KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut in India, requesting that the companies consider making a bold branding move to offer U.S.-based vegetarian options as well.

On March 14, Yumi Media, a food website devoted to delivering the latest and greatest in food news, recipes, and products to incorporate into your own healthy lifestyle, responds to newly established vegetarian locations of U.S. food giants such as KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut in India, saying that the companies should stop avoiding the U.S. vegetarian market.

According to OneIndia News, major fast food suppliers such as KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Subway, which earned their stateside popularity through their non-vegetarian products, are catering more to the vegetarian demographic.

Subway's development agent for Gujarat and Daman-Diu Durlabh Singh commented on the shift, stating, "We carried out a survey in Gujarat and sent a proposal to the US HQ to open an all-veg outlet with a pure Jain counter in Ahmedabad." "We will now add more vegetarian items on the menu in Gujarat, which is the only state that contributes 60% of the total sales from vegetarian food," Singh added.

According to OneIndia News sources, “Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC also have plans of setting up all-vegetarians outlets in different parts of the state. Spokespersons of the food giants also informed that they would increase the vegetarian items in the outlets which have already been opened.”

“At Yumi, we're wondering when these companies will ever considering doing anything like this in the US,” comments Justin Maas, spokesperson for Yumi Media. “It's obvious that their decision to offer vegetarian restaurants in India is motivated by profit and not by any kind of attempt to cater to a healthy lifestyle, since the traditional Indian diet is largely vegetarian. It seems that vegetarians are always looking for more options. Quorn makes delicious meatless meals that helped me to reduce my meat consumption – however, it is only sold in specific locations. Quorn complaints have kept such an amazing product off the shelves, and fast food joints keep avoiding the vegetarian market. There needs to be a change and Yumi Media wants to be a part of it.”
