Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) March 13, 2013
More than 300 people are registered to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Blue Cross Blue Shield Muscle Walk to help pay tribute to — and raise funds for — children and adults served by MDA in the Ark-La-Tex area.
"We want to encourage people throughout the Ark-La-Tex region to give back to local families affected by neuromuscular disease," said MDA Director of Healthcare Services Lydia Brown. "By supporting the MDA Muscle Walk event on March 16, people can make an immediate difference and help raise awareness and funds for research and vital services benefiting families served by the Association."
The annual Blue Cross Blue Shield Muscle Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Louisiana Boardwalk. For registration information, visit http://www.musclewalkmda.org/Shreveport.
Local students, cheerleaders and marching bands will be in attendance at the Walk to compete in the Sonic School Challenge, a contest between area schools to encourage support of the MDA Muscle Walk and families affected by muscle disease. Local Sonic Drive-Ins will team up to give two grants of $500 each to the school that raises the most money overall, and to the school who raises the most money per individual.
Last year, MDA Muscle Walks nationwide raised more than $6.2 million, and more than $10 million has been raised since the program started in 2011.
