The importance of creating a good headline has been highlighted in a new article and video by Find the Edge founder, Kenny Goodman.

Content writers are wasting their time if they fail to consider the benefits of a good headline, according to founder of Find the Edge, Kenny Goodman.

In a new video and accompanying article, he lays bare the techniques required to get readers, and potential customers, clicking.

He said: "Getting the headline right is one of the biggest challenges there is. A good headline should grab people’s attention immediately.

"If it doesn’t, they’ll simply never see your fantastic content, and you’ll have lost them. This makes creating the content in the first place a total waste of your time and energy.

"With so much information hitting people’s eyeballs every day, you really need to stand out from the crowd if you want to engage them immediately."

Titling the content, '11 Ways to Create Seductive & Engaging Headlines,' he explains how the use of numbers can be especially effective in generating a burning curiosity to click.

He said: "About 80% of people do not read content word for word – these people are called scanners.

"I am one of them, and I prefer content that is going to follow a logical, sequential pattern."

The video runs through some of the best techniques Goodman uses to encourage higher read counts for articles and content, in an age where attention spans are decreasing all the time.

The benefits of considering Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) when writing headlines are also discussed.

He said: "How do people surf the web? They type keywords into the search engines – mainly Google.

"If you use the keywords that are most likely to be searched, then you stand a chance of ranking for these keywords.

"This is even more likely if you use them in the title."

Other techniques discussed include the use of emotional hot buttons, keeping headlines short, and using effective questions to generate interest.
