John Capecci offers Living Proof Advocacy Training

...for anyone who wants to change minds, influence policy, raise awareness, save lives, touch hearts and make a difference.

John Capecci and Tim Cage, co-authors of Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference, are currently enrolling participants in a customized, small group workshop in Toronto. The workshop, entitled “Living Proof Advocacy Training,” is aimed at helping participants tell their personal story effectively as advocates for their cause or organization. John Capecci will conduct the Toronto workshop, helping participants learn how to tell their story in a variety of forums.

The workshop is geared toward anyone interested in sharing a personal story to advance a cause: advocates, spokespeople, champions, staff or board members, volunteers and anyone who believes in the power of a personal story to raise awareness or create change. The goal of the workshop is to provide participants the tools to effectively speak their story and message in presentations, talks and media interactions.

“With the publication of “Living Proof,” we’ve seen a great deal of interest from people who want to more effectively tell their own story, and we love having the opportunity to work with individuals, each of whom has a unique opportunity to serve as an advocate,” said Tim Cage.

The workshop is four hours and will feature a combination of engaging lecture, written and spoken exercises, discussion with other participants and expert coaching and feedback from the trainer. Participants will also receive a copy of “Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference” and will work with the book during the training. Prior to the workshop, participants will be asked to fill out an online survey so that the authors can tailor the program to their specific needs. The workshop will center on five main areas: telling your story as an advocate, the 5 qualities of effective advocacy stories, how to choose and focus stories, crafting a story and practice and feedback.

“We’re excited to visit this wonderful city and community,” said John Capecci. “The workshop is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to share their story and change minds, influence policy, raise awareness, save lives, touch hearts and make a difference.”

The workshop will take place from 8am to noon on May 12, 2013 at the Toronto Marriott Bloor Yorkville hotel, and registration continues through April 27. Interested individuals can read the full seminar description and register at lptoronto/brownpapertickets.com. The Toronto workshop is one of a series of open-enrollment events the authors offer around the U.S. and Canada.
