According to a recent Sky News report Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith wants more drug and alcohol addicts in work to help slash the welfare bill. This bill will help addicts to get the right treatment so they can go back to work and Iain Duncan Smith is offering providers will be paid more when they find lasting positions for people with drink and drug problems and a bonus of £2,500 will be given for every participant who stays in work for six months.
The report goes on to say that 1 in 15 benefit claimants had a drug or alcohol problem and under the new programme people will get the needed treatment for their addictions. Mr Smith insisted that employers should not be put off by employing people who have been through rehab as they could be highly motivated, loyal and committed workers.
