Feature enables savings for consumers on hundreds of generic and brand-name prescription medications.

iTriage®, one of the market leaders in consumer healthcare technology with nearly 8 million app downloads on iPhone®, iPad®, and Android™ phones and tablets, has launched a new discount feature through its free smartphone apps to help ease prescription medication costs. Accepted at more than 95 percent of U.S. pharmacies, the iTriage pharmacy discount applies to the majority of medications that accounted for the 3.9 billion prescriptions dispensed and $300.3 billion in sales* in 2009. More than 62 percent of U.S. consumers have yearly drug expenses.

“iTriage truly believes in its mission to empower the healthcare consumer at every stage,” said Peter Hudson, M.D. and co-founder of iTriage. “The new pharmacy discount helps consumers better manage their healthcare budget.”

It’s estimated the average prescription price is $71.69**, and though the iTriage pharmacy discount cannot be used in addition to a consumer’s prescription drug benefits through their insurance provider, it offers a 10- to 85-percent discount on the majority of generic and brand medications.

The free and easy-to-access discount can be used by anyone through the iTriage smartphone app, and addresses:

  •     Those who lack insurance
  •     Those prescribed drugs not typically covered by insurance
  •     Those seeking the ability to save money by choosing generic medications over brand-name

How to Use the iTriage Pharmacy Discount

To use the iTriage pharmacy discount at 60,000 pharmacies nationwide, individuals must first download the iTriage app for iPhone, Android or tablet. After opening the app:

  •     Tap “My iTriage” on the home screen
  •     Next, locate the Pharmacy Discount Program icon at the bottom of the page
  •     Onsite at the pharmacy, present the app screen to the pharmacist to determine what discount is available
  •     Fulfill prescription

While the iTriage pharmacy discount cannot be used in conjunction with insurance, users who already have insurance can still benefit by checking to see if the price is more affordable than their plan provides, especially in cases of medication considered elective or lifestyle, which traditionally are less likely to be covered by insurance.
