Quito, Ecuador (PRWEB) March 19, 2013
It has been announced at the Huairasinchi Adventure Race 2013 in Ecuador. The host of the next Adventure Racing (AR) World Championship is going to be Ecuador. Quito, Ecuador’s capital, will serve as the race headquarters, where the world’s best adventure racing athletes will meet and prepare for an epic multi-disciplinary adventure race. Craig Bycroft, director of the AR Word Series, ARWS, said: “Ecuador will provide a unique and diverse landscape for a true expedition world championship.”
Epic Race of Endurance and Skills
The AR World Series is one of the world’s toughest and most demanding races. Since 2001, the best endurance athletes come together at AR’s premier Qualifier events around the Globe, like the Huairasinchi race in Ecuador, and they have to bring up all their skills and push themselves beyond their limits to race non stop for up to ten days. Allowed at the starting point are about 20 up to an unlimited number of teams, the top two teams at each of these races gain a highly coveted position on the start line on the AR World Championship. At the moment, there are races in 14 different countries over 5 continents. Each year, a Qualifier event is chosen to host the world championship, as this year, it has been the Huairasinchi event in Ecuador.
The Adventure Racings lead through the harshest and roughest landscapes the earth has to offer. The highest mountains, the wildest water, the hottest deserts, the deepest forests, everything will be dished up to challenge the adventurers. The gender mixed teams will be confronted with a big range of disciplines. Those are mountain biking, climbing, ropes, navigation, kayaking, to name just a few. The racetracks are kept secret and are revealed only just before the start.
Ecuador – Home to Adventure
As Ecuador, located at the equator, has three main geographic regions, the Pacific Coast, the Andes and the Amazon, it offers a great variety of trekking, biking or climbing routes. Ecuador’s coastline presents long golden beaches, astonishing wildlife diversity and a narrow, winding road along the seaside and through tropical forests. The Andes are scattered with majestic volcanoes, whose seven of the highest ones of Ecuador are above 5,000m (16,404 ft). Volcano Cotopaxi, second highest volcano (5,897m) is the centrepiece of Ecuador’s most popular national park, “Parque Nacional Cotopaxi”, and brings a great number of opportunities in outdoor activities like climbing or mountain biking. Going down to an altitude of 200m is the amazing Amazonas with the biggest wildlife diversity on earth. All this diversity jammed in such a small space is the remarkable characteristic of Ecuador. Having combined all of the climate-zones you get a fascinating mixture and some staggering challenges for the adventurous expedition racings.
Santiago Lopez, race director of the Huairasinchi race, states: “We know that we will be able to host a race like none seen before.” Also the very diverse climatic zones will bring another hint of dramatics into the daring races.
Quito as the starting point will offer the racers the best in culture, gastronomy, comfort and adventure. It is Ecuador’s second largest city and, located in the highlands of Ecuador on 2850m. Surrounded by active volcanoes, Quito is the centre for adventurous tours in hiking, biking or others.
