On March 18, 2013, Rapid Recovery Solutions releases a statement following a Fox Business article by Sally Herigstad discussing how medical bills can end up on your credit report, and how to prevent it from happening.

The Fox Business article states that when you owe money to a doctor or a hospital, it usually doesn’t show up on your credit report. If the bill goes unpaid long enough, though, it will find its way into the hands of a collection agency.

Becky Walzak, an expert in loan quality assurance, was quoted in the article as saying, “Frankly, we see a lot of medical bills on credit reports. The most frequent reason is that they are arguing the claim – they think the insurance company should pay it, they think the bill was outrageous, a variety of reasons.”

The article mentions the best ways to make sure your medical bills don’t end up on your credit score are as followed:

  •     “Pay them off, if possible.”
  •     “For larger bills, agree to a payment plan.”
  •     “If you have a significant bill in dispute, put a statement on your credit report.”
  •     “Pull your free credit report regularly.”

John Monderine, CEO of the debt collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution, offers his comments on the issue. “Sometimes people don’t realize that medical bills can turn into a debt, and become a problem on their credit report,” says Monderine. “These tips are good for helping people make sure that they pay off their medical bills and keep them from turning into a major debt.”
