THE NEED AND CHALLENGE
Due to their track record of providing successful recruitment campaigns to Oil and Gas companies in the Middle East, and Globally, Hunter & Chase were contacted by a regional multinational Oilfield Services company. Following a number of telephone as well as face to face presentations, and a detailed proposal, Hunter & Chase were appointed to manage the search campaign for two strategic positions.
The company delivers Oil Field Services such as Wireline, Slickline, Cased Hole Logging and Completion services, it required a General Manager to grow its business services in post revolution Libya and another General Manager in Iraq. Post revolution, the roles were under management by the Regional Oil Services Director. This meant he was unable to push forward the company’s regional expansion plan in time whilst managing the day to day operation and business relationships in Libya as well as Iraq. It was therefore critical to have someone in place who can take up the role quickly, build new relationships was technically excellent and with leadership and PnL as well as line management responsibilities.
Further, due to the nature of the business and region someone with international experience yet local understanding and connections in each country was needed. Iraq had its own challenges as did Libya, and just months after the revolution meant security was a big concern for Libya, whilst Iraq was relatively stable in the Kurdish north, Basra in the south was not so stable and with the Iraq GM role primarily based in the south security was also challenge.
Following a successful search and headhunting campaign Hunter & Chase, produced shortlists containing a diverse range of international and regional as well as local candidates, very well qualified and connected senior managers that suited the criteria, salary range and cultural challenge requirements of each role. Each candidate had background and experience of Libya and Iraq as relevant to their respective position and had either worked for Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford or Baker Hughes.
Both selected candidates are now in position and both are making significant contributions to the future growth of the company in Iraq and Libya, thus providing excellent return on investment. The company continues to work with Hunter & Chase across both strategic, mid-level and non managerial hires across a number of business operations across the MENA region.
