A new study published in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine evaluated PRP therapy injections for knee arthritis. Patients with moderate knee arthritis were treated with one injection of 6 milliliters of PRP. The PRP is obtained by spinning a patient's own blood, which makes it a very low risk procedure.

The patients in the study were folllowed for a year, and overall showed reductions in pain scores along with increases in functional activity. In addition, three fourths of the participants had no evidence of cartilage loss during the year on MRI scans.

"These findings are remarkable, and provide great promise for what PRP can potentially do for those suffering from knee arthritis and pain. A larger study is necessary, but regenerative medicine received a huge boost with this study being published. And it's great that the treatment is available with the pain doctors at Arizona Pain Specialists," said Arizona Pain Network CEO David Greene.
