After closing a round of $450,000 in funding, Venuemob eyes fast expansion to give hospitality industry a boost in Australia.

We’ve been able to find people who are looking for venues and we want to connect our community of event organisers to venues that we love

Venuemob, a new venture capital backed startup run by former Groupon Execs matches up event organisers with suitable venue spaces. Launched in July 2012, the company has taken the first steps in its expansion plans and will launch in it's second city in Sydney, Australia.

Backed by Optus Innov8 and the University of Melbourne, Venuemob helps people find bars, restaurants and function spaces for a variety of events, ranging from birthday party venues and corporate function venues through to wedding venues.

Venuemob’s CEO, David Wei, says “We’re excited to be expanding into a new city and it's an exciting time for our company. In the financial downturn, a lot of business owners have come to us and told us that business is not as great as it was 12 months ago, and people are spending less. We’ve been able to find people who are looking for venues and we want to connect our community of event organisers to venues that we love.”

“We’d love to help these businesses generate new revenue or increase their weekly takings. It could be a Thursday night, or a quiet Wednesday - we find there are lots of people who need a venue on any day of the week,” he adds.

With hundreds of venue spaces profiled on the website, Venuemob is looking to bring the same convenience to Sydney party-organisers, with goals to be in all cities in Australia and internationally within a short span of time.

One of the first venues to be profiled on Venuemob in Sydney is Cruise Bar, a waterfront venue by The Rocks. Erin Rice, Business Development Manager at the harbourside venue says:” Cruise Bar is excited to be coming onboard. Venuemob looks like a great new channel to showcase our venue and we look forward to tapping into their network of event organisers.”

“We are helping these people find places to go, and we select our partners based on the fact that we have confidence in them to provide our users with a unique and fantastic experience,” said Wei.
