Getting adequate amounts of fiber each day helps to promote normal blood sugar levels

With Diabetes Alert Day on March 26, now is a great time to bring awareness to the topic of Type 2 Diabetes, as well as encourage people to learn more about risk and management.

Konsyl, the fiber supplement recommended by doctors across the country, has teamed up with nationally acclaimed registered dietitian Keri Glassman to educate people on the importance of daily fiber intake for promoting normal blood sugar levels as well as insulin sensitivities, and lowering cholesterol levels. Over 26 million adults and children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and as many as one in three people have pre-diabetes, which means they are at great risk for developing Type 2 diabetes.

“While it’s a serious epidemic in this country, diabetes can be prevented and managed with healthy lifestyle adjustments, including exercise and a healthy diet,” explains Keri Glassman, RD. “With Diabetes Alert Day on March 26, now is a great time to bring awareness to the topic of Type 2 Diabetes, as well as encourage people to learn more about risk and management.”

One way people can help promote normal blood glucose and insulin levels is by following a high fiber diet, which equates to 25 grams of fiber per day for women and 38 grams for men, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The body digests fiber slowly, which in turn slows down the release of glucose, or blood sugar, into the bloodstream, allowing more control of blood sugar levels (1). Fiber will also help people feel fuller longer which will help people to maintain a healthy weight.

According to Glassman, a healthy diet with plenty of high-fiber foods like whole grains, legumes and vegetables is important in order to reach daily fiber recommendations. However, many people do not adhere to this healthy way of eating on a daily basis and therefore are not getting the recommended amount of fiber. A recent study published in NewHope360 shows that nearly 50 percent of Americans know they need more fiber in their diets, with most people getting only 12-18 grams per day.

“I encourage everyone to think about fiber five times a day to help make sure they are getting their daily-recommended intake,” says Glassman. “Make sure to eat fiber at every meal by having on hand plenty of high fiber foods and always have a high-fiber snack readily available like an apple or almonds. Also, get creative by adding a fiber supplement like Konsyl Original Formula to your diet by blending it into your favorite morning shake or sprinkling on top of a salad for an extra boost of fiber.”

Konsyl Original Formula has 75% more fiber per serving than other leading brands, with 6 grams of psyllium fiber per serving—equal to 3 grams of soluble fiber. Konsyl Original Formula is made of 100% psyllium, an all-natural type of soluble fiber that is derived from plants, and is gluten free with no sugar or sugar substitutes.
