The new TIA-4953 standard measures the acoustic performance and tone control of amplified phones to ensure the best possible sound output for individuals with hearing loss.

(March 19, 2013) Harris Communications is a provider of solutions for every level of hearing loss with a variety of products for those who have mild, moderate or severe hearing loss. Recently introduced to the product line are two new phones - the Clarity Alto™ and AltoPlus™ - the first amplified phones to pass strict new standards set by the Telecommunications Industry of America (TIA).

The new TIA-4953 standard measures the acoustic performance and tone control of amplified phones to ensure the best possible sound output for individuals with hearing loss. Although amplified phones have been available for many years, the new standard provides the over 36 million people with hearing loss objective information on how well a specific telephone model will help them communicate on the telephone. The Alto™ phones passed an independent evaluation proving full compliance with the new industry requirements for mild, moderate and severe hearing loss.

Besides being certified under this new standard, the Alto phones have numerous features that assist those with hearing loss, low vision and dexterity challenges.

The phone has amplification up to 53 decibels and outgoing speech up to 15 decibels with Digital Clarity Power™ for clearer call quality. A built-in speakerphone and ports for a headset and a neck loop give other listening options.

The large buttons and a backlit keypad make for easy viewing while Clarity VoiceAssist for talking keypad and talking Caller ID make it easier for those with low vision to operate the phone. (The AltoPlus™ comes with all these features plus a large tilting LCD display with large font for Caller ID.)

Those with arthritis or other dexterity issues will find the Clarity AudioCenter with ergonomic volume and tone control a great assistance. The volume and tone controls can be easily adjusted to the user’s exact specifications.

Alto™ and AltoPlus™ are also equipped with ClarityLogic™, an award-winning customer service technology that allows customer representatives to remotely access the phone and adjust the volume, tone control or other settings of the user.

Now available at Harris Communications, the Alto™ (CL-ALTO) retails for $159.95. The AltoPlus™ (CL-ALTO+) retails for $169.95.
