Shiver Me Timbers: HomeServe Shows Its Funny Side For Comic Relief

While Red Nose Day tickled the nation’s funny bone for a good cause on Friday night, more than 250 HomeServe staff and their families gave up their evening to man the phones and take donation calls while the live show was broadcast by the BBC, at a special pirate-themed event at the company’s Walsall call centre.

Walsall, UK (PRWEB UK) 19 March 2013

While Red Nose Day tickled the nation’s funny bone for a good cause on Friday night, more than 250 HomeServe staff and their families gave up their evening to man the phones and take donation calls while the live show was broadcast by the BBC, at a special pirate-themed event at the company’s Walsall call centre.

More than 4,600 calls were answered and over £130,000 taken by employees, who rolled up their sleeves and stayed until 12.30am, lending their expertise to support one of the UK’s biggest charities. The highest single donation taken on the night was a staggering £2,000.

They were joined by HomeServe Membership, CEO Jonathan King – who also helped man the phones – Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mohammad Nazir, and someone bearing more than a passing resemblance to Pirates of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow! Together they showed that, when it comes to giving, everybody is responsible for mucking in and doing their bit.

This is the ninth year that HomeServe has donated its call centre to Comic Relief. In keeping with the nature of Red Nose Day, staff were invited to bring their family along for a night of fun, games and fancy dress. More than 100 children were kept entertained by magicians, face-painters, a caricaturist and balloon animals. Attendees were also entered into a free draw to win some pirate booty.

HomeServe Membership CEO Jonathan King said “It was a really fun evening. I’d like to thank all the staff and their families for playing their part and giving up their precious Friday in support of a terrific charity. We raised a fantastic sum for a great cause.”

Its 25 years since Red Nose Day first burst onto TV screens and into the nation’s heart and thanks to the generosity of the great British public, millions of pounds has been raised to change the lives of people in the UK and across Africa.

As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Red Nose Day brings the entire nation together to Do Something Funny For Money. The money raised by the public helps people living unimaginably tough lives, both at home in the UK and Africa. For more information check out http://www.rednoseday.com.
