Cybergistics announced today its participation in and celebration of the 24th annual Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week, March 17-23. The company, which has been a leader in supporting health information management (HIM) departments of major NJ hospitals since 2003, notes that 2013 is a critical year for regional HIM professionals preparing for the transition to ICD-10 in 2014.

“We appreciate this year’s HIP Week theme of ‘Accurate Data, Excellent Care,” says Cybergistics COO Donna Pizzulli, MPA, RHIA, FAHIMA, “HIP Week is a wonderful way to recognize the diligent and excellent work that HIM professionals regularly perform, and the critical role they play in the healthcare system. Our staff is now heavily focused on helping our HIM clients prepare for the new ICD-10 medical coding system.”

Cybergistics provides coding and HIM services to hospitals in the greater New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania area. The company also provides ICD-10 readiness services to support HIM staff in preparing for the monumental task of adopting the new code set, which will be officially implemented in October 2014. The ICD-9 to ICD-10 process will involve hospitals and providers (anyone covered by HIPAA) transitioning from the current 14,000 codes to over 70,000 codes.

HIP Week, sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in partnership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association, is a way to acknowledge the increasing importance of data in the healthcare system.

Pizzulli points out that given the rapid evolution of technology and health policy, HIM professionals will need to continually adapt and update their skill sets to keep up and to ensure the best possible delivery of health care. Says Pizzulli: “Cybergistics is poised to help provide health care institutions with consulting services that help HIM professionals stay ahead of the curve with accurate data, so they can deliver excellent care to patients.”
