According to the Ipswich Star, hypnotherapy classes have been introduced to Ipswich hospital, the third in the country to adopt the alternative treatment.
After winning the maternity service of the year award at this year’s Annual Midwifery Awards the hospital is set to offer Hypnobirthing as a technique that women and their partners can practice and learn to help childbirth and labour. The course includes self hypnosis, deep relaxation and breathing exercises with the aim of reducing stress, pain levels, and anxiety and to help the couples feel calm and confident during labour. The sessions can be used by any pregnant woman but are most effective for women who are between 24 and 28 weeks pregnant, and should be attended once a week for a month. The course is priced at £200 per couple and includes reading material, a CD and ongoing telephone and email support from the fully qualified midwives.
This is great news for the National Council for Hypnotherapy whose members have been highlighting the benefits of hypnotherapy for many years. As the UK’s most established hypnotherapist directory the NCH allows members of the public to search for hypnotherapists in their local area. The organisation is pleased that the method is becoming more available nationwide after it reported two London based hospitals introducing the therapy.
A representative added, ‘Our members have been helping expectant mums bring their bundles of joy into the world as pain and stress free as possible for many years. We are delighted that Hypnobirthing is becoming available at hospitals and hope that the sessions are greatly received.’
NCH represents over 1800 hypnotherapy professionals within the UK and is committed to ensuring the highest possible professional standards amongst our members. Those looking for help with smoking, weight, anxiety, panic attacks, habits and phobias may be helped by local NCH accredited therapists, look for the NCH seal of approval on their websites.
