Online Bed Quilt Urges Consumers to Improve Sleep with New Mattresses

Chicago Daily Herald reports on the health consequences of sleep deprivation. Online Bed Quilt encourages consumers to banish pain by investing in new mattresses.

On March 22, Online Bed Quilt responds to an article published by the Chicago Daily Herald, which outlines the consequences of sleep deprivation and insomnia.

According to Chicago Daily Herald, even a small change in sleep habit could cause grogginess. Even skipping out on an hour of sleep can result in heavy eyelids, sexual dysfunction, loss of hair and deficiencies in vision and hearing. The article says, “When we don’t get enough sleep, our immune systems go into overdrive, which causes systemic inflammation and turns on dangerous genetic switches.”

Justin Maas, a representative from Online Bed Quilt, says new studies have revealed sleeplessness could provoke symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. “There have been a few studies that show depriving your body of sleep could cause you to develop Alzheimer’s plaques and fast forward the process if you’re already predisposed to getting it,” he says. “Sleep deprivation has also been linked to chronic headaches, weight gain, high blood pressure, and severely impaired alertness.”

While the negative consequences of sleep deprivation are known, there are not too many solutions to the problem, Maas says. However, Online Bed Quilt offers a few tips to minimize the effects of sleeplessness, promote healthy sleep habits and thwart insomnia:

  • Invest in mattresses- Mattresses are the most important item in the bedroom. You spend a third of your life sleeping, so it’s important to have a comfortable surface that helps your body relax. Make sure you try out this new mattress in the store. Lay on it for about 10 minutes before making a decision.
  • Avoid sleeping on your stomach or back- Sleeping on your side is probably the best sleep position. It opens up the passages to help circulation and breathing. It also keeps the pressure off certain areas to minimize pain and allow your muscles to relax.
  • Limit use of technology before bed- Blue light emissions are not good before bed. The light tells your brain that it’s not time to sleep, which keeps you alert and prevents you from falling asleep.
  • Don’t go overboard on pillow use- Pillows are meant to be slept on, but don’t use more than one. It could give you a neck ache and add pressure to your spine.
