Place of Hope’s recent Golf Invitational and Charity Dinner welcomed golfing celebrities and media luminaries March 3 and 4, 2013, all of whom were in town to support the child-welfare organization.

The Golf Invitational and Charity Dinner took place at the prestigious Old Palm Golf Club and built on its reputation as a premiere fundraising event in northern Palm Beach County. More than 80 golfers, including HBO’s Real Sports / media personality Bryant Gumbel, of The Loxahatchee Club, GT Nicklaus, of The Bear’s Club, and John Havlicek, took to the challenging Raymond Floyd-designed links to benefit needy children.

This year, the Golf Invitational and Charity Dinner continued to be showered with support not only by players, but also by donors, each of whom lent his and her energy, talent and friendship to the organization that now operates in offices in both Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton. Proceeds from the Golf Invitational and Charity Dinner will go toward programs, housing, services and outreach for the agency that provides foster care, maternity care, care for victims of domestic abuse and a place to heal for mistreated children.

The Charity Dinner took place March 3. Debbie Butler, a Palm Beach Gardens resident, received the Pande Family Award. Butler and her late husband, Abbey, have supported Place of Hope for more than eight years. The Pande Family Award is in place to recognize the longtime dedication of volunteers to abused and neglected children.

Place of Hope Executive Director Charles Bender said, “The Butlers’ work has translated into young men and women knowing that people truly care about their well-being, education and future, just as parents would. Setting an example for responsibility and love takes a real dedication to showing up and truly being there for these children, and it is not a commitment that Debbie and Abbey took lightly. The Place of Hope family appreciates their wonderful work.”

Among those in attendance at the Golf Invitational March 4 were Dave Burke, Bud and Kathy Conlan, Alex Gilmurray, John Havlicek, Tom Mullins, Doug Mustapick, Scott Mustapick, Gary, GT Nicklaus and Steven Nicklaus – all descendants of golfing legend and Lost Tree Village homeowner Jack Nicklaus – and Chuck, Jayne Beth, Kingston, Ryan and Sara Grace Wall.
