Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2013
The international investment advisory and globalization firm Tholons, in its recently released report 2013 Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations, ranked Costa Rica first among Latin American outsourcing destinations. The January report places the country significantly ahead of Argentina and Mexico, pointing to Costa Rica’s strengths in human capital, IT infrastructure and industry commitment, among other factors.
Mario Chaves, chief executive officer of Avantica Technologies, Costa Rica’s largest Nearshore software engineering services company, commented: “We’re not surprised by Tholons’ recognition of Costa Rica’s talent leadership compared to Argentina, Mexico and other locations. A combination of factors unique to Costa Rica add up to a superior services model for North American businesses – including geographic proximity to North America equalling same time-zone and easy flight access; national education commitment and unrivalled university computer science departments; stability defined by an historically democratic tradition; and English language skills within a Western business model.”
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Costa Rica is among the world’s oldest democracies - the only Latin American country listed in the historical top group of 22 globally. The country’s leadership in a number of important categories includes:
The literacy rate is the highest in Latin America, with universal public education guaranteed, and obligatory
For nearly 70 years Costa Rica has been without a military, redirecting that funding to education
The United Nations in 2013 ranked Costa Rica first in environmental performance in the Americas
The country’s government announced in 2007 its intent to become the world’s first carbon-neutral country
Chaves went on to explain that since Avantica Technologies’ (Avantica) founding 20 years ago, the software engineering services specialist has experienced steady growth providing services to venture-backed start-ups, the Software 500 and industry. With hundreds of engineers located in its multiple engineering centers throughout Costa Rica, the company in 2006 also opened a center in Lima, Peru – a country recently cited by the Wall Street Journal’s Emerging Markets Report as one of Latin America’s “New Economic Tigers”.
Peru, on the strength of its growing middle class, low debt, dynamic economic expansion and stable, supportive government is quickly emerging as an economic powerhouse in the region. The country’s economy is booming, growing 6.9% in 2011, with a major contributor the services industry. Avantica, with the largest Nearshore software engineering center in Peru serving the North American market, continues to be part of that growth.
Chaves said: “Our North American customers in particular have realized the value Avantica’s Nearshore, Agile experienced software engineers deliver within the same time-zone. Costa Rica is the same time-zone as Austin, Texas, and only one hour ahead of San Francisco. The increasing risk related to political, inflationary and safety issues for doing business in Argentina and Mexico is also a factor. Costa Rica and Peru in contrast are widely considered stable, predictable business ecosystem alternatives in Latin America.”
