Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA hosted its M&T Bank Bright Stars Night at the Circus event at the Verizon Center on March 20. More than $260,000 was raised to support Easter Seals programs, the largest total in the event’s 16-year history.

It was a magical night at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for children and adults with disabilities, including wounded warriors, active duty and military veterans, and their families. With more than 10,000 in attendance, Bright Stars provides a fun-filled night at the circus that supports Easter Seals programs throughout the year.

As always, the children Easter Seals serves had an incredible time. “He jumped through fire,” said 5-year-old Selah Hay. “A real person jumped through real fire. Can you believe it?” Hay attends the Safeway Inc. Child Development Center at the Easter Seals Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Inter-Generational Center in Silver Spring.

“Bright Stars is a wonderful event because it enables so many people to have a great time with their families on one special night of the year,” said Selah’s mother, Sarah Hay. “Last year, Selah talked about Bright Stars for months. It is an incredible sensory experience for children. All the kids feel that they are at special event just for them.”

Earlier in the day, clowns from the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus performed for the children of the Easter Seals Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Child Development Center in Washington, D.C. The performance made the day much brighter for the children, many of whom have disabilities ranging from autism and Down syndrome to cerebral palsy.
